Amed L.Omar is devoted to making Kurdistan a better place. Currently, he is a junior of Business Admin. at AUIS. Amed is the co-founder and president of the Awat Newspaper, founder of Social Awareness Voluntary Group (SAVG), and co-founder of AUISMUN. He is a volunteer with an altruistic heart that is always beating to improve Kurdish culture.
Banu Ibrahim Ali is from the city of Sulaimany. She studies Information Technology at the American University of Iraq-Sulaimany. She is the Web Developer/Editor for Awat Newspaper. She is also an IYLEP 2009 (Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program) and Seliger 2010 Alumni. She is very excited about the very first Startup Weekend in Sulaimany. She believes that this is a very good chance for innovators to come, share their ideas, and receive a great chance to start their business.
I am a business major student in the American University of Iraq-Slemani. I'm very excited to be one of the co-organizers of the first Startup Weekend's in the KRG. I have participated in the International Model United Nations before and have realized the significance of group work. I think this event is an opportunity to discover talent in Suly.
Arsh is a sophomore studying at the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani. He is an inspiring writer and has also been working on graphic design for several years. Arsh has a desire to expose the Kurdish culture to entrepreneurship and finds Startup Weekend as a suitable approach.
Mahmood Shawkat Jaff is a young man who studies Business Administration at AUIS. He has a dream to one day see Kurdistan become one of the most developed countries around the globe. He has worked to see this dream come true and is hoping to have this initiative (SWS) be a useful tool in pursuing this.
Hanar is the epitome of a women's activist in her own respective right. Her voluntaristic spirit has lead her to work for organizations such as WADI,heartland Alliance, and Awena.Her passion drives her to cure what she finds erroneous and always has her kindly spreading awareness of her actions to her friends and family.

I hope to be a part of the development that Kurdistan is rapidly undertaking. I am currently a student at AUIS majoring in International Studies. One thing that I want to see and work for is volunteerism in the youth of Kurdistan. I’m also working for Vision, and Atwanim (I can organization) – and am an IYLEP Alumni.

Kamal is the Chief Technical Officer of Avesta Group and one of the shareholdee/ founder of the company.
He worked in various reputable international organizations such as United Nation Office for Project Service UNOPS and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nation FAO as GIS & Database Programmer and Database administrator.
12 Years working in IT field gives a good experience to cover the position of Technical Management of Avesta Group. As the CTO, Kamal advises the Management team by evaluating methodologies and tools implementation. His skillful abilities lead the company to maintain up-to-date technology standards for its customers. Along his role as CTO.
Kamal has many Microsoft certifications as Microsoft Trainer MCT, Microsodft Certified IT Professional MCITP: Database Development, MCTS: Microsoft SQL Server 2008, Database Development, MCTS: Designing and Providing Volume Licensing Solutions to Small and Medium Organizations, and MCTS: Microsoft® SQL Server™ 2005-Implementation and Maintenance and Cisco Account Manager.
Photographer, architect, artist and a filmmaker
Jamal Penjweny is a photographer, architect, artist and a filmmaker based in Iraq. Penjweny started as a sculptor and painter in Iraqi Kurdistan. Since 2004, while based in Baghdad, his photographs have reported the Iraqi conflict all over the world and appeared in more than dozen international news publications including The New York Times, The Washington Post, The National Geographic and The World Press Photo Magazine. Penjweny’s photography series “Iraq is Flying” has been selected and exhibited in United Kingdom, United States, Dubai, New Zealand, Brazil, and China. His latest works as filmmaker include “The Gun Market and “Another Life”- reporting the life of smugglers and the weapons illegal trade at the border between Iraq and Iran – where Pejnweny was born. Penjweny graduated from the London Institute of Photography in 2008. He is currently working on his new photography series “God’s Animals”.

He holds a BSc. in Animal production College of Agriculture at the University of Slemani, and a MBA in International Management and Leadership from The American University of Iraq-Slemani. He has worked for four years (1995-1999) in FAO. Currently, he is the CTO (Chief Technical Manager) of Gorannet ISP.
Sales Executive at Fanoos Telecom
After achieving one of the top grades among Iraqi students in high school, Rawaz left the country in 2004 to continue his studies in United Kingdom. He was successfully admitted to University College London, one of the UK’s top five universities and started his degree in Electric and Electronic Engineering. He achieved a first class honors degree on his thesis on performance evaluation of a wireless network technology in 2008. Since 2008 he has returned to Iraq help Fanoos Telecom build its Wireless Broadband Network. Since 2008 he has assumed multiple responsibilities from technical evaluations and IT strategy, propositions, marketing, Human Resources and Sales. He is also a graduate of MBA at AUIS 2011.

Dilshad O. Abubakir
Regional Development Assistant Specialist at USAID/Iraq
Upon receiving a prestigious Fulbright grant in 2007, Dilshad successfully completed a Master’s in public communication from The College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York in May 2009. From September 2009 through April 2012, Dilshad served as public relations officer with the KRG Department of IT. As of May 2012, Dilshad has been working with the USAID/Iraq in Erbil as a Regional Development Assistance Specialist.
Oliver Francis Koch
General Manager and Head of Customer Development of Easy Bites
Oliver Francis Koch is the backbone of Easy Bites, acting as General Manager and Head of Customer Development. He is a consultant to GIZ (German Development Cooperation) in the matter of building the National Information Technology Association (NITA) in Erbil, Iraq. Before GIZ, he worked as a consultant for Arthur D. Little in Frankfurt and as interim CEO for SVSoft Europe GmbH in Frankfurt/San Salvador. Aside from this he has initiated and supported numerous tech-startups worldwide, ranging from Germany to Canada. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Computational Engineering from Darmstadt University of Technology (Germany).
Dalia Rahim Amin
Career Services Coordinator at the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani
Dalia Rahim Amin is a non-profit founder from Seattle, Washington, where she received her B.A. in Political Science and Law, Societies, and Justice from the University of Washington. She currently acts as the Career Services Coordinator at the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani. She assists students and alumni of AUIS locate jobs, internships, scholarships, and study aboard opportunities nationally and internationally. Dalia has been involved as a participant and coach in many business competitions and is the two-time consecutive winner in the Stock Market at the International Career Development Conference in the United States.
Dr. Hemin Shekh Omer Latif
Head of the IT academic program at the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS)
Dr. Latif holds a BSc. in Civil Engineering, a BSc. in Computing and Statistics, a Graduate Diploma in Computing and Informatics, and a PhD in Robotics and Interactive Systems from the Nottingham Trent University (NTU) in the United Kingdom (UK). He has worked as an IT specialist in the United Nations World Health Organization (UN WHO), mobile product engineering in Huawei Technologies Ltd., and a research assistant at the Center for Innovation and Technology Exploitation (CITE) in the UK. He has submitted and presented a number of scientific articles in journals and conferences around the world. He has mentored and led a number of student teams to participate in different competitions including the winning team in the local competition of the Microsoft ImagineCup 2012. He is currently a Steering Committee member of the National IT Association (NITA), an Assistant Professor of Information Technology (IT) and the Head of the IT academic program at the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS).
Dr. Diar is the CEO of Asiacell since January 2008, and also was the CEO of IraqCome Technologies. He received a Bachelor Degree in General Medicine and Masters in Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Slemani.
